When a juvenile shrimp leaves a bayou to go to the big ocean he finds out that it’s easier said than done. In the bayou he encounters humans, other shrimp, and even alligators, but that was just the beginning. In the ocean he meets even bigger obstacles but with determination and a little bit of luck he powers through the hardest times. In the end he didn’t wind up where he expected, but he was right where he belonged.
Lane Smith lives on a farm in Johnson County Missouri with his parents and older sister. He is a 5th grade student at Holden elementary school. He is outdoorsy and enjoys camping, and any activity involving water. He also enjoys history, retro electronics and has a knack for engineering. Although he is landlocked, his family loves to travel, and their travels have fostered a love for the beach and the ocean. In fact, he loves it so much that he hopes to one day become a marine biologist.
